It is a joy to welcome community volunteers who share our vision of restoring the Mt Gravatt Showgrounds habitat to create a wildlife corridor and showcase our local native wild flowers which visitors can grow in their own backyards.
Preparing for our National Tree Day planting on the Ekka Holiday requires extensive site preparation starting with removing invasive weeds like the Caster Oil Plant Ricinus communis.
Lucy learned to use the Tree Popper to remove the Caster Oil Plants: weeding without chemicals.
I also had the pleasure of escorting a facinated Lucy on a tour of our restoration work including the currently flowering Yellow Buttons Chrysocephalum apiculatum.

First buds on Eucalyptus seeana Narrow-leaved Red Gum planted April 2024. Now about 3 meters the trees are already preparing to flower.
In the area currently being prepped for planting we have edible native oyster muchrooms coming from the spent mushroom compost under the mulch to help inoculate the soil.
