Bird families moving into Pollinator Link

By: Laurie Deacon

A special week … finding four bird families nesting in the Pollinator Link and my birthday celebration.

1. nesting Frogmouths ( in the tall old Ironbark ),

2. a pair of nesting Plovers on the bottom Oval with four chicks,

3. in another old tall Ironbark a pair of Kookaburras are nesting in the termite mound for the seventh year in a row,

4.  a pair of nesting  Bush Stone Curlews.

Birthday bushcare with friends – perfect.

Time spent – three and a half hours.

Work done – weeding mulching and planting and educating.

About 50 square meters cleared of weeds.

Forty local native plants were put in by local community and donated from Norman Creek Catchment Group nursery.

Weeds without seeds mulched on site. Seeded plants like mother of million were put in the green bin of a local resident. Some were also given as chicken food to the local chicken friends.

Watering was done by children and adults. So the two hoses that have been donated by myself over the years and left in situ for the high school students to water the plants in Green Gym time on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.

Tea and Cake occurred as the sun went down with much sharing of stories and learnings and relationships have been building over the many years.
